Understand your domain
- Check the registrar. This is the company that manages the registration. Your website designer, hosting company and registrar may be different businesses.
- Review the dates. Registration and expiry dates can help you plan renewals or a transfer. Confirm the renewal arrangements in your registrar account.
- Check the nameservers. These point to the service managing your domain's DNS. They do not always identify the company hosting your website.
Domain lookup questions
Does no record mean a domain is available?
A domain with no public registration record may be available, reserved or unsupported by the lookup service. A registrar must confirm availability and pricing before you register it.
Can I see who owns a domain?
Only details made public by the registry are shown. Owner names and contact information are often withheld for privacy, so a WHOIS lookup may show the registrar rather than the owner.
What is the difference between WHOIS and RDAP?
RDAP is the modern replacement for traditional WHOIS. This checker uses RDAP to retrieve public registration records from supported domain registries.
Will checking a domain register it?
No. This tool performs a public lookup. It does not reserve, register, transfer or renew a domain.
